Verdict Affirmed by the Iowa Supreme Court

November 21, 2025

On November 21, 2025, the Iowa Supreme Court affirmed a lower court ruling that awarded $4.26 million to an Iowa family whose son was killed by a former Manchester, IA police lieutenant James Wessels during a pursuit in 2020 that multiple police agencies had called off.  The ruling relied on the testimony of GLFE’s Dan Billington, who concluded that Wessels had intentionally collided with the motorcycle, killing Gus Mormann.

The ruling can be found here: Mormann v. City of Manchester, Iowa Supreme Court No. 24-0828
